Modeling Competition is Brutal

Posted on Saturday 29 August 2009

Can you foresee the obstacles teen models have to overcome in their desire to become a star? For you to become a model you need more than just your pretty face. You need talent and discipline on top of a body that is perfect in order to be a successful model. It is actually very rare to find someone with model potential. If you think you are model material, the very first thing you need is a portfolio, that will take their breath away.

A diary of past work is a way to show an agency that you have the ability to be a true model, rather than wasting their time. Knowing what to put into your portfolio is something that is not easy and takes a lot of effort. Perfection is what you need to work towards. The structure of your pose, the way the light falls, what your body says, also the emotions that you evoke are all a crucial part of what you need to master in order to become a model and your portfolio needs to show that you have the potential in all of these areas. Modeling is more than just being attractive, but becoming a representation of a product. You want them to keep coming back for more. If it takes hours upon hours of studying yourself in a mirror, then that is what you have to do. In an industry full of pretty faces, you are competing against bodies that are perfect. You have to show that you are the best, over everyone else. Know how to market yourself to a broad audience and go after the market that works best for you. Targeting the wrong market can be an embarrassing blunder for everyone involved.

The photographer needs to be very skilled. Companies want to make sure that their models models are worth the investment and put something into it too. You need to prove that you are completely serious. That means do not pick any kind of camera, with your friend taking the shots.

Invest in a professional photographer and preferably one that specializes in modeling photography. You want a photographer that has the ability to portray your ideal. While there is always room for improvement, being second best is not an option. If you have the talent, the pictures, and the commitment, you might have exactly what it takes to be a model.
