So: What Got Done?

Posted on Monday 24 October 2005

You could be pardoned for not being able to detail all the things that got done in the Governor’s North Korea trip. This post is a short, simple account.

1. North Korea has committed to unconditionally resuming talks on its nuclear weapons program.

2. North Korea has pledged to allow outside oversight of the disarmament process.

3. North Korea will also allow humanitarian aid groups to stay (more detail on that below).

4. North Korea will strongly consider shutting down their plutonium reactor as a show of good faith during the talks (a suggestion made personally by Gov. Richardson).

Is this the end of the road? No, it is absolutely not the end of the road. Did it move us one gigantic step closer to the end of the road? Yes. It did. It isn’t every day a Governor from Southwest America can tour Southeast Asia and make all of our lives safer from nuclear bombs and starvation, so bully on that.

More when there’s more. All the Richardson-related news lately is about this, which is understandable. I’m going to tackle, as I said, another installment of The Big Mo’ very soon when coverage of the NK trip dies down a little bit, and then talk soon about Gov. Richardson’s 2006 challenger and how I anticipate that race affecting the 2008 Presidential contest. More soon!
